She Walks the Stars digital downloads just dropped!!

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to release this music.  Ava, Kam'ra, Zoe, and Bai, and the whole cast of characters are right here and waiting for you to listen.  Ava has been a voice in my head for about three years, and I spent my COVID time-out writing, recording, producing, and mixing this amazing new music.  She Walks the Stars is 11 songs full of love, light, gravity and quantum entanglement.  It is a space opera and is tethered to my own Kabalistic leanings. Get your digital downloads and pre-order the CD (3 options and all the info you need is all at the bandcamp link) at https://mamagina.bandcamp.com/album/she-walks-the-stars-2

Soooo close to opening the CD pre-order for She Walks the Stars! In the meantime, here is a new lyric video. Let me know what you think. Ya'll know you can let your folks know all about it.

Ava takes a commission from a Shinto monastery established thousands of years ago on a tiny planet in the orbit of a dying star. The monks have been there honoring and bearing witness to their own Amaterasu. Now, they must prepare to leave the solar system soon, for sustaining their way of life becomes more untenable as the star fades. Ava's commission: to live amongst them for a full solar year to observe and honor the star with a new song before all is abandoned.

Just made the decision to hand off the mastering part of this project to my mix coach. Ya'll, he just sent me a quick master of Song for the Dying Sun and it made me weep.

I can't make the music sound like that with just a month left to deadline, so my ego is taking a back seat. I will learn that process in the future, but for now, I want you to hear this music like I hear it in my head! And this is the way to go. Pre-release info coming SOON!

Every musical project, whether it's a single, CD, live show, or tour, always manifests in a huge learning curve for me - and it's not always about the music when everything shakes down. This decision to learn more about mixing and mastering as the work continues on She Walks the Stars, makes me question my objectivity with every note ... I have completely dismantled and recreated and re-recorded things I thought were done - often. My anxiety over self-imposed deadlines has created self-imposed stress - some of that is good. I SHOULD test my boundaries, my limitations. In my quest to improve my skills, I feel like that frog in the well - one leap forward, three back. I had a little melt down yesterday - I suddenly hated my vocals, hated the song, hated my lack of knowledge and my under-developed "ear". Cried over all of my inadequacy. And I hated that, too. Literally told my mix coach, "I don't need a cheerleader, but I do need a time out," while silently acknowledging, that yes, sometimes I really do need a cheerleader. So, I am back at it today - working on the music. Most days I am not clear on what my "why" is ... but I am pretty sure it has something to do with clarifying my Muse's gifts and sharing all of it with you. Grateful today for YOU being part of that unusual equation. Stay tuned ... the music IS happening!

I am an artist and you would expect a bit of disorganization ... and you would be right. BUT, I made myself a chart to keep track of the work I am doing on all 11 songs. Looking at it right now! It has columns for beats per minute, song length, how many revised mixes I have sent to my mix coach, and the dates we exchange notes on each song. Today's summary: I have caught up with all the notes from my mix coach, and all 11 songs are currently in his hands. 3 songs are at the final mix stage. And music time total stands at 62 minutes 52 seconds - perfect for a CD. I just drafted the pre-release page in Bandcamp, and as soon as all 11 songs are at final mix, I will let you know how you can pre-order. We will be mastering in the next few weeks, and I can't even express how very excited I am to be bringing this music to you SOON! Stay tuned.

Still working on final mixes for She Walks the Stars ... it's a process. But looking at my little chart (3 final mixes, 8 to go), and I am getting closer every day. I have an incredible mixing coach on my side, and I am learning so very much. I took yesterday off and took a little road trip to purchase a pair of sweet used-but-pristine Mackie monitors to upgrade my studio. It was a bittersweet moment. The gentleman selling them was a retired musician and his arthritis had crippled his hands to the point that he could no longer play at all. I am grateful for his generosity, because he sold these monitors to me for less than half of what most of the used ones are going for on the market.

Working through the notes I just got back from my mix coach on Poison Garden. Finished making the changes, closed my eyes and sat back to listen. Bai, retired Shinto monk, intra-galactic espionage artist, and experimental bio-doc running an "underground railroad" for escaped corporate sex slaves, literally stepped right in my face and said, "That which does not kill you ... but should ... is of great interest to me." As often as I have walked through her poison garden, and relived her conversations with Ava, this is the first time she has spoken to me directly. Unnerving, but I think she just blessed this song!

Getting ready to send the draft mix to my mix coach on song #11! You know what that means? Recording and production is pretty much DONE for She Walks the Stars. The rest of April and May will be devoted to mixing and mastering with a whole lot of direction from my coach. Once the final mixes are done (before mastering), I will be announcing the pre-sale stuff for the CD! I cannot adequately express how very excited I am to share this music with you. SOON!! As an aside, I have probably listened to "Again", the last song on the CD, a few hundred times (no I'm not kidding), and I still relive Ava's last few moments - all the things she meant to tell Kam'ra - all the music that was still left to write - all the life she had left to live. Still getting choked up. I wanted her to SAY SOMETHING at the end of the last song - something meaningful. But I can't find the words. You will have to find them for yourselves.

4/7/2021

Rather long post, but musicians and digital geeks might find it interesting. So, the last three days have been devoted to revisions, re-recording and first draft mix of Poison Garden. Over a year ago, I quickly recorded my ideas for this song into a different computer, onto a different DAW, using different source sounds, different mic, different everything than what is currently in my set up. A year ago, I noticed after bouncing the song down, that there was a weird "ghost" harmony stack that sounded like my vocal echoing in perfect time after a lead vocal part. I did not sing this harmony stack ever anywhere in the song. I listened to every track, and it just wasn't on any individual track. I checked my FX and NOPE - not the culprit. I couldn't find where it was, and finally left it alone. Yesterday, I laid in all the vocals for the re-recorded, revised version of Poison Garden (slightly different bpm). AND ... that "ghost" vocal harmony stack was there when I played all the tracks. But again, nothing even remotely like it on any single track, and I had not yet applied any effects. And I certainly did not sing anything in that spot. This is a head-scratcher. And inspirational, too. I really, actually love this particular tiny little thing, so I just went back and recorded the vocal harmony stack for the two syllables and dropped it in a sweet echo wash (so I can have control over it). I figure the Universe was telling me that it should be there. I swear I am not hearing things ... I mean, I DO hear things all the time. But this was clearly audible - quiet, but audible. Studio weirdness is weird.

Close to being done with re-recording the last two songs for She Walks the Stars. "Again" got a complete reboot starting with a time signature change, and might have a couple more vocal and instrument tracks that need to get out of my head and into the computer. And the last two days, I have been working on "Poison Garden" - acoustic guitar, bass, warm pads, koto and sitar are in - vocals tomorrow when it gets a bit quieter 'round here. Just a few more days, and I shall be in full-time mixing mode! I know ya'll are ready to hear this music! I am so excited to be this close to sharing it with you.

3/30/2021

"Again" is getting a complete make-over! Chords have been retrieved, and it's odd how it happened. My old karate teacher used to walk us through a new kata very slowly a couple times and then ask us to do it. I would say, "I don't remember all of it." And he would say, "Your body already knows it." So, I reminded myself that my hands have already played this song over and over, and I let my hands tell me the next chord and the next. Oh, also, the time signature has been changed, the acoustic guitar is gone, and without changing a single word the entire feel has gone from melancholy and loss to apprehension and transition. You do know Ava dies in the end, right?

I've seen the light we speak of when down to our very last breath

The only thing in the room when there is nothing left

Don't know if it's angels or a trick of the brain

How I hope with all of my heart I'll see that light again

I've known the love poets sing of, a once in an aeon's embrace

The only soul for light years around through all this empty space

My love was made of starlight I could not hold in my hand

How I hope with all of my heart I'll find that love again

Tell me time is not a straight line

That it curls and curves spiraling in

So I may find my once in a lifetime

Over and over again

I've walked the stars others dreamed of; lived my life, no regrets

As I watch the void roll in, I've only one wish left

Let me feel the warmth of your sun, once last time take my hand

How I hope with all of my heart I'll find you once again

Tell me time is not a straight line

That it curls and curves spiraling in

So I may find my once in a lifetime

Over and over again

Tell me time is not a straight line

That it curls and curves spiraling in

So I may find my once in a lifetime

Over and over again

Past self did not write down these chords ... present self is not amused. Deconstruction/reconstruction commencing on "Again". One of two songs left to record from the ground up.

3/22/2021  Amber has questions for Ava.  Here is their conversation so far ...

Amber:  Hello, I'm a big fan and friend of Mama Gina LaMonte, and I would like to introduce myself to Ava. I'm sure Gina can tell you more about me but I would so love to hear what you have to say. I have many questions to ask. Being that you're in the future are you from earth or another planet? what were your physical attributes? Will the earth be destroyed by man, from your time point. If these types of questions are not allowed Im sorry. but I am very curious. Lol

Ava: Hi Amber, My heart is reaching out to you from across time and space. I hear curiosity and concern about your future in your questions.

The short answers ... I was created on a Cradle - a planet originally purposed to create humans that would bring benefit to the whole galaxy. As you might imagine, it's a failed experiment overall, and the cradles' missions have changed over the aeons to simply serve GalaCorp power. Most cradles create and raise servants. I was born on HF11 - we called it Hell - a harsh environment designed to generate high functioning humans - scientists, politicians, leaders in every field. I was an anomoly, and my gift was ascertained as music - an emotional field - and emotions were not valued in my cradle. Redirects were attempted, but I maintained my original purpose and was emancipated at 14 (approx. earth standard years). My cradle and its supporting satellites were low grav. So, I am quite the normal size compared to my intra-galactic companions - long and lean. By your standards, I think that makes me about 6' and 130 lb. - though don't quote me on that - "feet" and "pounds" don't have any direct translation for me.

I visited Earth immediately upon my emancipation ... yes, Earth does still exist - but it might not be recognizable to you, as it was all but destroyed numerous times over millenia. Earth is an archive now - its sole purpose is to house what little remains that connects humanity to its past. I went there to dig through the archives in search of connections between myself and others in this bardic pool.

In case you are curious, Mama Gina and Nine Toes the Bard are part of that pool, as well as Qoph - an orphan unable to see, speak or hear, and there are others. Earth gravity literally almost killed me - my internal organs took quite a beating - and after about 2 years, I had to leave. And that was when I began walking the stars.

Amber: Thank you so much for being genuine and honest. I really appreciate this. I had concerns but now the future seems uncertain as this is very different than I know life now. I am 55 and in the bardic grade as well. I only sing karaoke which I like and I'm an artist in acrylic paint. and I write poetry. I am about average height 5'4". I'm sorry to hear that your organs took a beating. and am glad you came to visit us here. walking the stars seems so cool. I love your music that I heard on mama ginas Bandcamp channel and the recordings thereof. There are a lot of unique sounds that I had not heard before. Also, how do you pronounce Qoph's name.? what is your mode of transportation like? is it a space ship? or teleportation? see I have millions of questions

Ava: Hello Amber, "Spaceships" first ... we have so many different varieties of transportation across the galaxy. Much depends on length of travel.

Vehicles for short/intra-solar system travel with destinations shorter than 10 years (earth standard) are designed for people to be active and awake every day with few options for cryo - so they are designed with plenty of "living" and "community" spaces. We really do not have safe/dependable faster than light speed travel (we have not caught up with your sci fi fantasies yet), so mid- and long-range and deep galactic travel requires ships with cryo-tech. We have truly developed cryo-tech as an art form, and there is no discernable physical degradation over a hundred year flight, which is generally the maximum flight taken. Although, studies indicate psychological breakdown beyond 75 years at a time. (Not me, but that is a whole other story.) Oh, and "teleportation" as you might understand it works for goods, but not for complex living organisms.

Qoph pronunciation? Kuf (u like in "put").

My heart is happy that you are enjoying the sounds that you hear from Gina. I know she has had quite a difficult time translating much of what she hears through me, so this is a comfort.

Finally, Amber, continue creating and sending your voice and your art into the world. Humanity's arc is so fragile, and beauty and hope are sometimes the only thing that bind us together.

Spring Branches

3/20/2021

Standing in the balance between winter and spring - even here in Florida. I have been hiding myself away, buried underground - actually, in headphones in my li'l studio. And the new music is sooo close now, but still some to be revealed - even to me. I took the headphones off, turned the speakers off yesterday evening, and spent some time in silence so that I could listen fresh today. Five songs are at or very close to the final mix stage thanks to some very targeted guidance from my mix coach. That's Heavy, Tangled, I Believe in Light, Leave the Light On, and Between the Stars. Almost halfway to my mix goal. At the far end, I have only two songs left to record and produce from the ground up ... Again and Poison Garden. Everything else sits in that middle, liminal space where Ava is waiting not so patiently to tell me, " it is done." And so, I am not ignoring all of you. It is a fact that I NEED you ... to listen, to support, to be part of this story. I am grateful to each and every one of you sharing this journey. Still on target for a late spring release. The moment that all 11 songs reach that final mix stage, while there is still a bit more technical stuff to do, I will invite you to pre-order the CD and digital music ... maybe five/six weeks.

Fiery Sun

3/9/2021  Not long after Ava and Kam'ra become lovers, Ava receives a commission from a neo-Shinto monastery on a small planet in orbit around a tiny sun. The monastery was established specifically to witness and record and honor the dying of that star for as long as they were physically able to remain there in close range. In these final few hundred years before they must abandon the monastery, the monks have commissioned Ava to observe their waning star, Amaterasu, for a complete seasonal cycle (approximately 3 earth years standard), and compose a song for the dying sun. I will begin the final re-recording and production of Song for the Dying Sun tomorrow. I expect I will be reliving those three years, the 50-some monks, the warren of a now near empty monastery, the archives, the relationship with Kam with every doubt and revelation. I will be pulled into that orbit, just as Ava realizes that Kam is now the bright center of her world.

Purple - Blue Gradient

3/6/2021

I just spent three hours finding/creating the "perfect" sound for one very, very tiny section of a song that I am working on. I have such a unique opportunity working in my bedroom studio ... the time I spend doing things like this doesn't "cost" me anything in the traditional sense, and I am grateful that I can dive in for as long as is necessary to match the sound I hear with my ears to the sound I hear from Ava. To take you into her world of light, gravity, quantum entanglement, and all that space in between the stars, I am constantly diving for sounds that will create that space for you! It is sometimes a subtle thing. In "I Believe in Light" one underlying percussive element was inspired from a couple of pulsar sounds, locating those frequencies that matched the recordings, altering and twisting them up, dropping them into a rhythmic pattern, and having them weave in and out of each other, sometimes each playing alone, and sometimes creating a specific friction by playing them together. So, yeah, pulsars as percussion.

3/4/2021  I am currently recording vocals for "Leave the Light On" and I am reliving those "ten days we slept and made love in the light." The chemistry between Ava and Kam'ra is undeniable. When Kam'ra begs that Ava leave the light on always, Ava complies. But she is also curious. A few nights into their time together, Ava is having trouble sleeping with all the lights on, and decides to dim them slowly as Kam'ra sleeps soundly. The darker the room becomes, the brighter Kam glows, and Ava understands her deep secret. Kam is not who she claimed to be ... not at all born and raised on this Void Station. Kam bears the marks of dozens of corporate owners. Each tattoo beneath her skin is designed to be undetectable in the light, but brilliantly incandescent in the dark - an easy way to mark slaves who might escape and will always be caught because space is deep and dark. Kam was born and bred to be a sex slave for the corps, and even her face shines like a tiny sun. Ava turns the lights back up and reaches for her lover and knows she will wait until Kam trusts enough to reveal who she truly is.

2/26/2021 Yesterday I sang A LOT! I recorded the vocals for Tears Don't Fall ... A LOT! Like 35 tracks with about 10 takes in each ... yup, that's A LOT! Today, I picked the best of each track (we nerds call it comping), and immediately took one of the more unusual tracks and put a deep alien sound on the voice. Now, as I am mixing, every time that part of the song rolls around, I feel like my friends from Didges Christ Superdrum have contributed in some small way, and it makes me giggle. I sure hope you are finding joy today ... A LOT of joy. Oh, and Ava highly recommends Didges Christ Superdrum. She says they get 1 million stars (not just 5). https://www.didgeschristsuperdrum.com/

2/24/2021

Deep in the weeds working on "Tears Don't Fall" ... throwing all ideas in, and then deleting them one by one until something settles inside and says, "that's the thing right there." Such an oddity, working on this song of incredible isolation 30k years into our future during this current time of incredible isolation ... not a personal pronoun anywhere in the lyrics - just being, never a being being.

no starshine

no sorrow

never ending line

object

set in motion

lost track of time

oblivion is out there ... right here

cannot steer at all

living in space where

tears don't fall

light years

fly by

cannot count the days

don't believe

in anything

no sacred space

void is all

that lies ahead

just a taste

of salt

living in space where

tears don't fall

tears don't fall - never see the cryin

tears don't fall - even in the dyin

livin this illusion

feeling nothing at all

livin in space where

tears don't fall

nothin on the outside

nothin in the head

calculate the distance

livin and the dead

approaching the horizon

back here at the start

it all adds up to zero

without a beating heart

no starshine

no sorrow

never ending line

object

set in motion

lost track of time

oblivion is out there ... right here

cannot sleep at all

living in space where

tears don't fall

tears don't fall

tears don't fall

tears don't fall

2/23/2021  Wanna hear what's happening with The Fault in Me? My friend Randall Reichenbach nailed the mandolin on this track, and I am so grateful for his inspiration. He heard the song in progress, and said that he heard a mandolin because the song was epic like something from Lord of the Rings. Of course, I said, "Have at it," and the results are here. What he played so inspired me that I turned some of it into a shredding rock mandolin! Have a listen here https://mamagina.bandcamp.com/track/the-fault-in-me

And here is a link to Randall's sound cloud so that you can hear some of his own inspired tunes soundcloud.com/user-368371534

2/21/2021  Ava's greatest secret?  She is a symbiont.  Zoe has been with Ava so long, mimicing and all but replacing Ava's central nervous system, that they are almost entirely integrated.  It is an elegant entanglement that gives Ava a much greater perspective of EVERYTHING.  Tangled is their song.

2/20/2021

Short and not so sweet tonight.  Focused on getting the mix for "Heavy" a bit closer to done. Listen here, and let me know what you think!    https://mamagina.bandcamp.com/track/heavy

Gravity, baby. Makes you feel like you're always fallin' down.

2/19/2021  You really do want to watch this. I sat down, all Zoom-like, with creatrix, author, artist, and musician Laura Perry this week to discuss the creative process. It's about 40 minutes, and I didn't edit a single word of our conversation. Brew up a cup of tea, and dive in. And then, do check out Laura's work through her website.  lauraperryauthor.com

2/18/2021  Listen to "I Believe in Light" right here https://mamagina.bandcamp.com/track/i-believe-in-light.

Still some work to do, but closing in on the final mix. Ava and Kam'ra are lovers, and if you have been following along, you know that beautiful Kam'ra glows in the dark for some pretty awful reasons. Both Ava and Kam'ra were cradle born and raised specifically for their vocations. True relationships and love were NEVER part of that equation. Most of Ava's music is darker, but in this moment, they are both finding their way toward joy and light.

Go ahead ... get up and dance. And tell me what brings you joy and how you can focus on that in these crazy times. Email me ... mnemosyne7@hotmail.com

2/15/2021  Willing to bet most of you are creative types. Who wants to video chat with me this week or next about their creative process? What motivates you? What holds you back? How do you know when you've made the "thing" that you set out to create?  Email me ... mnemosyne7@hotmail.com

2/14/2021  Unexpected post today.

I led a guided meditation this Saturday (it was recorded) and Ava nudged that I should share it with you here. Oh, this is definitely related to Ava/She Walks the Stars.  The work I have done personally through this Star meditation over the last 10 years absolutely allowed me to open up to the creative experiences I now live daily.  When you need 20 minutes of peace and growth, here is a Star Meditation for healing yourself, your community, your world. Know this: With one breath, you can change everything.

2/14/2021  Some of you know my process. Heck, some of you have been with me when it's happening. For those of you new to my music, here's what it looks like from my perspective. Images and words begin falling into my heart and head - stories emerge, and I actually LIVE them, as in, I see, smell, taste, touch, hear, and feel on an emotional level, everything that is happening. The personality that emerges and shares all this with me is as real as I am, and the evolution of the other personality and the resulting music can take years to coalesce and more years to potentially integrate. It is not a dream ... rather it occurs in a fully aware state, and the Gina part of me is fully aware, even if she does step aside to let the other flow through. Yup, some folks might find this rather disorienting or just plain wierd ... I find it fascinating. And not gonna lie - the music is far better than anything I might have written on my own. The two that have had a strong presence in the last few years are Nine Toes the Bard (a 15th century Welsh lass from another time line) and more recently Ava/She Walks the Stars. Best I can explain it - we are not the same soul or reincarnations. Rather, we are each fragments of a Bardic Oversoul, and each of us have access to the lived experiences of every fragment in that oversoul. And THAT'S the explanation for "I have voices in my head, and I have learned to live with them." The CD She Walks the Stars is coming late spring and I am laser focused on recording and mixing these days. Look for videos, interviews, music, random stuff, and thoughts each week right here. I am grateful that you are sharing this journey with me.

2/13/2021  Quick chat with my friend David.  We talk about how Ava's song "Poison Garden" affected him and how he connects to the music.  Do you have a favorite Ava/She Walks the Stars song?  What do you remember from hearing it the first time?  Tell me!

2/12/2021  The very first complete song that Ava and I wrote was "Leave the Light On." It's a glimpse into how she met Kam'ra, her lover who glows in the dark. I mean, she SHINES. Kam'ra is an escaped corporate sex slave (cradle-born and bred specifically for that purpose), and has tattoos under her skin and over her entire body that literally glow in the dark, though they are not visible in the light. In so many ways, She Walks the Stars is Kam'ra's story as much as it is Ava's. Here is the raw, acoustic version.  Tell me what you think! mnemosyne7@hotmail.com

2/11/2021  A short story from Ava - kinda creepy.

2/10/2021  Sending out a great big WELCOME to everyone who is checking in on She Walks the Stars. I am so glad that you are here, and am excited to share this musical journey with you.

Stay tuned ... I will be dropping links to a couple more videos in the days ahead. If you have questions for Ava/She Walks the Stars or for Gina as the gateway to this co-creative consciousness, ask away! I will post answers - heck, we might even video chat and share the convo with everyone here.  mnemosyne7@hotmail.com

2/8/2021  As far into our future as Ava is, we humans are still so very broken. I think you'll love this acoustic version of "The Fault in Me." Can't wait to share the song as it will appear on the CD ... but I have to wait a bit ... still mixing in an epic rock mandolin ... oh, yes, it shall be amazing. Stay tuned, and check out the acoustic version in this video now!

2/7/2021  My dear friend Theresa was there the day that Ava first came through - even though I didn't know exactly what was going on at the time. I sat down with Theresa to talk about that moment, how we grow through open hearts and a willingness to experience something different, and to chat about one of her favorite Ava songs - Hail the Sun. Cue the popcorn, listen in on our convo, then let me know your questions for Ava!

2/2/2021  "Hail the Sun" was one of the first songs that Ava gifted me. A love song from a comet to a dying star. This video was taken at Silver Springs in Ocala, Florida as I was busking. The song is now in the final mixing stages with a little cello and other tasty stuff for your ears (oh, this release is soooo close) and you can hear it as it is at the moment on my bandcamp page https://mamagina.bandcamp.com/track/hail-the-sun
